The ear is a complex organ. Capable of translating vibrations of sound into an electric medium the brain can process. For many of us the ears are just part of our head. But they can become very painful if you mistreat them, poke things into them or let bacteria build up and cause an infection. Sound waves travel into your ear and make the ear drum (tympanic membrane) vibrate. This stimulates the auditory ossicles to move and produce electricity that is processed by the cochlea as sound. Wax build up can stop the sound waves reaching the tympanic membrane. If you use cotton buds or other implements to clean your ears you can poke holes in the tympanic membrane and this can cause permanent damage.
Having worked in emergency departments for many years, we have seen and removed everything from wax, beads, food and critters from ears. This is a specialist skill that needs to be performed safely. We are trained to the highest standards to inspect and remove unwanted items.
We will discuss with you the best way to care for and clean your ears safely.
Wearing a device in your ear for long periods of time increases the wax your ears make. This increases the chances of them getting blocked or an infection building up. We will assess your ears and provide you with solutions that can assist you in your every day hearing.
We are not audiologists, we cannot reprogram your hearing aid or assess you for hearing loss. We can advise if the hearing loss is due to infection, wax or other foreign body.
